Kaya toast - Vegemite to Malaysians.

Kaya toast and honey

You'll find kaya toast sold in cafés all over Malaysia and Singapore, it's pretty much the equivalent of vegemite for Australians except more sweet than salty. When I was holidaying there last year I'm pretty sure I saw it for sale on every street corner and shopping centre I went too. Kaya consists of coconut and pandan flavours which is a pretty good combination in my books, sweet but not overly so. Kaya toast is usually eaten with coffee or tea and it makes for a great breakfast or snack during the day. And on another positive note, at $3.95 a jar it's damn cheap.

I picked up this jar from Happy Foodland Supermarket at Rapid Creek Shopping Village, who specialize in Asian goods. If you haven't been there, it's worth visiting just to see how much stuff you can possibly cram into such a small space.
