Mindil Beach Markets

Mindil Beach Markets

Last Thursday I graced the legendary Mindil Beach Sunset Markets and braved the crowds for the first time this season. These are the most famous markets in Darwin and a must for any visiting tourist. For the locals the markets provide a cheap and a good night out. Drawing on Darwin's diverse multi-cultural population, the variety of food to be found is huge with Asian, Australian, Mexican, Greek and more!

Most visitors come for the food, especially the locals, but there is a large section of arts and crafts and there are multiple performances going on at any one time. Let's not forget the beautiful sunset views of course. You can buy yourself some dinner, walk 20 metres to the beach, plonk yourself down and watch the sun sink into the ocean.

I always umm and ahh over what to get since there is just so much to choose from. Usually I end up getting stuff I don't usually find elsewhere and I stayed true to form today. To start with I had a snack of takoyaki from the Japanese stall, had a bite of Jenny's gigantic churro and for the main course I had a giant roast lamb shank with vegetables and gravy. Japanese, Spanish and Australian all in one night – can't complain at all.
