Vietnamese roll from the Parap Markets
• By Tuan Nguyen
The weekend saw me skipping the gym, sleeping in and heading straight to the Parap Markets for some post (non) work-out protein. Yes that is rather slack of me, but I really needed a sleep in. Plus it was way too cold to be out and about that early in the morning! I found it impossible to go past the grilled pork meatball roll from the Vietnamese stand - always a winner in my books. The bread is as close to an awesome VN loaf of bread as you'll find in Darwin and there's plenty of meat and sauce. I'd like to see bit more vegetables stuffed in there, but the carnivore in me is certainly satisfied.
The Deck Bar banh mi that I previously reviewed should seriously ditch the seriously rock hard not-so-crusty French baguette in favour of the bun pictured (same goes with the beef stew). Chuck Norris even feels this way.
And for desert we have a selection of Asian sweets. Sweet but not too sweet, colourful and chewy. Don't leave them out of your sight for too long after purchasing or they'll be gone in flash!
