Waterfall Café

Char Kway Teow from Waterfall Café at Jape Homemaker Village

One of my favourite places for a weekend comfort food lunch (and breakfast), Waterfall Café at Jape Homemaker Village provides a nice selection of a  la carte dishes from both the east and the west. Being Asian, I pretty much always go for the noodles though, the serving sizes are very generous and the flavour is top notch. I can't actually comment on any of the western dishes (burgers, open grills etc) as I haven't had any in all the times I've been, however they look good from what I've seen. There's no wall separating the kitchen from the dining area so you can hear the chef from the kitchen tossing the wok and banging utensils around at a rapid pace. I don't mind the sound though as it reminds me of the restaurant kitchens in Asia. It also means wait times are never too long even when busy and the dishes are steaming hot upon delivery. One criticism I have though is that I believe the chef is a little too liberal with his use of soy sauce in some of the dishes, which does provide the aforementioned rich taste, but perhaps too much.

If noodles aren't your thing, you'll also find coffee, burgers, fish and chips, curries, fried rice, daily specials and take away food in the bain marie (the last item on the list rather average to be honest). Most of the dishes are around the $12-14 mark, which seems to be the norm these days around Darwin so there's no complaints in regards to price. Special mention goes to the salty fish fried rice, I rarely order fried rice when eating out (call me stingy but I don't believe in paying that much money for rice) but this one I'll pay for as I love its combination of salty and savory taste. The next time you're shopping in the area, I'd recommend you stop by for some lunch.
