The Bacon and Egg Chronicles: The Cav
• By Tuan Nguyen
The breakfast menu at The Cav has been given a tantalizing makeover with all sorts of breakfast goodies, eggs benedict, fry ups, coffee etc etc.
Hungry with no food to eat, I waltzed in this morning to get me the bacon and egg toasted sandwich beast pictured above. At $8 it takes the crown for the most expensive toastie I've reviewed so far, so it better be damn good. After a short wait, I took my baby back to the office, lovingly wrapped in paper and foil. It was big, it was heavy and it smelt good even though it was wrapped up like a Christmas present. Ooh baby baby I can't wait to dig into it, thankfully the office is only a stones throw away.
Opening it reveals half a pigs worth of bacon, an egg, super thick cut fluffy white bread buttered on the outside like it should be and lightly toasted on the hot plate to give it a hint of smokey flavour. We have a potential champ on our hands folks! I forgot to ask for BBQ sauce, but no biggie, there's a stash in the office kitchen which I applied liberally.
Deliciousness personified in a sandwich, there ain't no doubt about it my dear readers. The only question left to ask is where it ranks in my bacon and egg toastie power chart. It's a close call between The Cav and the current champ at Salvatores Café. I can't decide and am torn with indecision. They both have their unique characteristics which I both love so I'm going to have to controversially call it a tie (at least until I go back for seconds). Well done fellas.
