Coffee Nut - For coffee nuts

Coffee

When you get bugger all sleep overnight, you've only got a few options to get you through the day:

  1. Chuck a sickie
  2. Sleep in late and tell the boss you had plumbing issues when you come in for work
  3. Go to work but sleep with your eyes open
  4. Have a coffee

Faced with such a dilemma this morning, I opted for number 4 being the upstanding employee that I am (I've only had one sick day in 3 and a half years). I headed on over to Coffee Nut on the corner of Mitchell and Edmunds streets for my caffeine fix this morning. There is a coffee machine at work (wohoo!) but I was in town early so decided to go for a walk to try this place out. It's home of the infamous Kopi Luwak - a coffee made from beans digested and then shit out by civet cats in Sumatra, Indonesia. Whether it is worth the price of 10 cups of coffee ($45) is not something I want to try out for myself, but would be most grateful if somebody shouted me a cup :)

Run by Rebecca Pearce, she works the coffee machine with speed and fury, faster than anybody I've ever seen. While sipping on my coffee I noticed she regularly had three cups on the go, a stark contrast to Vince over at Xtreme Caffeine who takes his time perfecting each cup. Each to their own, but one thing is for certain though, you don't have to wait long for your cuppa. As I've said before, I'm no coffee expert, but I thought the coffee was ok. Neither weak or too strong, the flavour not special by any means but not bad either. In a blind taste test I wouldn't be able to pick it from the crowd. Salvatores Cafe has a uniquely nice after taste, Four birds have some real smooth action going on and Xtreme Caffeine is in your face strong.

The service isn't warm and friendly, it seems to be more about pumping through the bucket loads of coffee orders in rapid time. It doesn't really bother me but if you're expecting hugs and kisses than you'll be disappointed. Coffee Nut – for those nuts on the go.
