The Hot Dog lady: Still epic
• By Tuan Nguyen
Finger licking good hot dogs are on offer for those heading past the Berrimah line, just look for The Hot Dog lady trailer and a big line of cars at the United Fuel servo at Coolalinga on the weekends. I'm told they're also at Bunnings Palmerston weekedays, but seeing as I have a full time job in the CBD I cannot confirm this (Edit: Just confirmed by Vince - thanks!).
Now some readers may remember me reviewing The Hot Dog Lady 53 weeks ago, well I'm glad to report that they're still epic. I take my dogs to the Vet next door despite living half an hour away, all so I can pick up one of these beauties afterwards. That's called dedication to both pet welfare and my taste buds folks. You've got the usual ingredients to pick from: sausage, bacon, onion, cheese, salami, various condiments plus garlic butter and home made chilli sauce. They're very generous too so one of these puppies will fill you up for the arduous trip past Palmerston back to Darwin and you can be assured that it tastes as good as it looks in the above photo.
It would be cool to see a German style hot dog with bratwurst and sauerkraut, although I'm guessing already that it probably won't go down well with most Darwin folk, but I'd buy it! If you do end up getting a hot dog from here, check out the little sign top left of the menu which awesomely says "Now on Darwin Foodies". Perhaps after today they should amend to the sign to say "As seen on Darwin Foodies... Twice!" A friend of ours is a friend indeed.
