Outback Spirit tomato and BBQ sauces
• By Tuan Nguyen
Just like bread needs butter, pies and sausages need sauce. Over the long weekend I had my fare share of snags (and then some) and they were topped off by some legendary "real Australian sauce" from the folks at Outback Spirit. I sampled both the regular "Outback Tomato" and the "Outback BBQ" sauces and was mightily impressed by both. I could have drank them straight from the bottle like tomato juice, but I could hear the sausages crying out "Cover me with your redness baby!"
The Outback Tomato sauce has a delightfully fresh and rich tomato flavour with chunky textured appearance, the perfect accompaniment to a pie or any long cylindrical meaty foods. Thankfully not tangy or too acidic but more like super frickin' sexy. It just tastes so fresh for some reason. Could be because the manufacture date on the bottle was no less than two months ago. Or it could be because it's just awesome.
The Outback BBQ sauce I liked even more, because I'm a BBQ sauce man who had just sizzled some beef sausages on a BBQ. I'll never pick up a bottle of Masterfoods sauce again after trying this peppery delight. To plaguerise straight from the Outback Spirit website, it's "a real Aussie BBQ Sauce that is seasoned with spicy mountain pepper, bush tomatoes, garlic and hickory. Smooth in texture and full bodied in flavour." The key ingredient is the mountain pepper which adds pow-wow and zing without being too over powering.
Outback Spirit have also got a whole range of other Aussie style sauces, chutneys, marinades and cooking sauces available, but I've never seen/noticed them before on local Darwin supermarket shelves so I'm just gonna go and buy them online right after finishing up this little review. I've already cleared space in the fridge. I have tried a few of the Beerenberg sauces, a similiar company, but I believe Outback Spirit have captured the real... spirit of the outback. Winning in a bottle! Check out, buy and read about Outback Spirit products over at www.outbackspirit.com.au
