Coffee Club Darwin Waterfront
• By Tuan Nguyen
Date breakfast once again, this time at the Coffee Club Darwin Waterfront. The word on the street is that this particular branch does great food compared to its other siblings scattered about Darwin, good excuse to go down and check it out then. The place was chock-a-block full with people which might have had something to do with the Big Boys Toy expo going on at the Darwin Convention Centre, or maybe it was just full of tourists. Either way, I was expecting a long wait. Luckly however, I was proven wrong.
The kitchen have obviously go the breakfast production chain down pat as we didn't have to wait too long for our eggs benedict ($17.90) to arrive. The serving size is quite big, the bread is nicely toasted, mushrooms done right and the baby spinach leaves are super fresh. In face I heard whispers that Popeye visits here just for the greens. The poached eggs were over done though with nothing oozing out of the middle after cutting through them. Maybe that's how they do it here as I looked around and other people's eggs were the same. The hollandaise sauce was very smooth and flavourful, although there was too much for my liking. I guess you can indeed have too much of a good thing.
My latte was OK. Just the right temperature and the foam perfecto. A bit milky though and I noted the same the last time I had a coffee here. Big cups of coffee are great, but sometimes I think baristas forget that need to equally up the amount of coffee in it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I wouldn't have a clue how to make a good coffee, I just drink it. There was nothing to fault about the service with the energetic pimply teens all doing a great job despite the full house. Overall breakfast was good. Functional, filling and it kept me going to until dinner (with a few mandarins in between).
