The Vault - Breakfast

The Vault - Scrambled eggs and bacon

I reckon I've found one of the cheapest cafe breakfasts in Darwin - The Vault at 71 Smith Street. Sandwiched in between a bank and financial advice company, their name is fitting, perhaps the cafe stores their beans in the bank vault next door to achieve maximum quality coffee. First day I visited I went with eggs benedict ($12) which was really nice. The two eggs perfectly poached and the ham lightly fried (nice touch), cutting open the eggs results in liquid gold oozing out slowly as you would expect from this dish. The hollandaise sauce tasty and proportioned well, not too much (like Coffee Club Waterfront) nor too little. Thicker slices of  bread would have been welcomed, if you're gonna go carbs you may as well go all out I say!

My wake me up latte was a little bitter but the temperature was about right. Impressed with my initial visit, the next day I returned for some scrambled eggs and toast ($7) with extra bacon ($3). The crispy bacon is just how I like it with plenty of caremelization all over, however the scrambled eggs probably had too much  milk/water added in and lost  flavour as a result (try the scrambled eggs at Xtreme Caffeine). The cappuccuino I had with it was nice without being extraordinary and not bitter this time thankfully.

The Vault - eggs benedict and coffee

Overall I'd be more than happy to return for breakfast. The food is good and the cheap prices suit my budget conscious dining habits quite well (read: I'm a cheap arse).
