The Roma Bar - Breakfast
• By Tuan Nguyen
Eggs benedict. I can't seem to get enough of it, loaded with calories as it may be. But I'm not counting. The Roma Bar on Cavenagh Street near the Darwin Bus Terminal is on my tasting plate this time and I'm instantly impressed by the thick cuts off ham piled sky high on the English muffin halves. Not just one or two measly slices either, pork loads of it. Everywhere else I've sampled thus far has only given me a few thin slices of ham at the most (except perhaps The Vault which was kind of generous). The hollandaise was a bit weird with a strong lemon flavour and really thick consistency. Tasty, but weird. Â Eggs were perfectly poached with uber gooey goodness to be found after busting the egg open.
My second visit today for eggs, bacon, tomato and toast was also a success. Whoever is poachin' them eggs has got it down pat with a perfect record of 4 out of 4. I would have preferred white bread though - this is not the first time The Roma Bar has given me non-white bread without me askin. Isn't it normal to give the customer white unless they ask otherwise? Brown is just terrible...
Coffee on my first visit this week was quite nice but second time around was a little bitter, the same lady made it for me both times too so I don't know what happened. Just sayin'. Overall I like the breakfast here. The prices aren't too high and the serving sizes are above average thanks to the mountain loads of ham on the eggs benedict. The lunch here is smashing too if you're not a morning person (I reviewed it a while ago here) and my vegetarian colleague raves about their non-meat offerings like a girl at a One Direction concert.
