Petra's Raw Cakes - more goodies

Firstly, if you like your desserts and cakes full of sugar and don't care about gluten free and what not, then you probably won't like these and may as well stop reading. Now for those who are still with me, Petra's getting quite the cult following with her Raw cakes - healthy and free from all the sugar, flour, butter and cream of traditional cakes. No artificial flavour enhancers, preservatives or colouring either. All natural goodness and surprisingly tasty.

By popular demand Petra has introduced more chocolate flavour and I'm told the chocolate ganache is a crowd favourite, although oddly enough I liked this one the least out of the five. Still great mind you, but I'm probably wanting more "chocolate", but understandably this is not a replacement for the "real deal" and so as a healthy and tasty alternative, this along with the others certainly achieve their goal.

Having said that, the raw New York Lemon Cheesecake  is as good as any lemon cheese cake I've had. Actually, it's better! The lemon flavour is super fresh and vibrant yet not too overwhelming as it can easily be. It's like ice cold home made lemonade on a hot day, except in cake form. By far my favourite of the lot and a sentiment shared with my lucky colleagues who also got a taste. In fact, just writing about it made me pause and go to Petra's Facebook page to put in an order for one! Update after second taste: So I ordered a half New York Lemon Cheesecake and this one didn't have as much lemon flavour, resulting in much less pow wow factor. Still lovely, but not to the heights of the previous batch that I had.

The Raw Peanutella is a peanut butter meets Nutella-esque combo. Not actual Nutella, but an homage to the classic sandwich spread. The flavours in this one are a bit more subtle and the texture is thicker due to the gooey middle layer and heavy base. Personally I'm not totally sold on this one, perhaps it needs a bit more peanut butter?

The Raw Chocolate Hazelnut Torte has  a lovely nutty flavour and provides good relief from all the chocolateness of the other cakes. I also like the squiggly lines that are drawn on it - we eat with our eyes as the saying goes. Speaking of nuts, it seems the bases on all these are a bit thicker then when I last sampled Petra's cakes. This I like as it provides more texture and balance. But before you say the bases are too thick, these are no ordinary biscuit bases - they're full of finely chopped nutty type goodies that are much much more then just a platform for the rest of the cake to sit on. Last but not least is the Raw Bounty Bite. I am very partial to coconut and this has plenty on the inside to go with a little bit on top. It's a nice little bite sized piece to finish off.... my breakfast. Yeah, I sampled all of these in the morning; what better way to start the day hey?
