Outback Jacks Bar & Grill - Darwin

Steak. So simple, yet so easy to get wrong -  which is why I don't particularly fancy paying $30+ for a steak not to my precise standards.. So it was with a little trepidation that I walked into Outback Jack's for dinner....

The decor is very outback themed as the name suggests, making for a relaxed and laid back ambiance. Unmissable is the giant crocodile hanging from the roof. If you're bringing the kids along there is a little play room out the back for them as well.

As you walk to your seats, be sure to swing by the steak fridge, where you can see where they keep some of their top shelf cuts of meat. Be warned though - you may end up leaving with an insatiable desire to go straight for the high end stuff.

It's Thursday night and business is rather quiet, most likely because half of Darwin is jammed into the Mindil Beach markets. This is great because our meals arrived no more than 15 - 20 minutes after ordering. That's the beauty of a steak - several minutes on each side and stick it on a plate to rest for a bit. Not sure why I've had to wait 45 minutes for a steak sometimes, but here they have their game sorted.

My t-bone was ordered medium rare. The outsides were more medium to medim well but the inner bits next to the bone were medium rare. This was to be expected for a t-bone. Great flavour and tenderness leaving me pleased overall. The mash on the side was out of this world buttery goodness whilst the token coleslaw thingy was adequate. I opted for the garlic prawn topper as well which was a bloody good idea.

The wife had some kind of chicken breast with mash and prawn concoction. For a breast it was rather tender and moist. Two thumbs up here. Also on the table were a pair of porterhouse steaks which were also well received.

Service was good with no complaints. The ladies took care of us at the beginning of the meal and left us to our own devices for the remainder of the evening until it was time to clear the table.

Good food and service at a reasonable price. Winning.

Edit: Went back a week later, ordered the unlimited ribs and wings for $29. Was not dissapointed! Big serving of epic fall off the bone ribs which I couldn't finish so ate for lunch the next day.
