The Foreshore Restaurant and Cafe
• By Optimus Prime Rib
I'm down at The Foreshore Cafe & Restaurant, the only one of its kind along the gorgeous Nightcliff foreshore area (there's a pub/bar down the road). With the current dry season weather, it's a fantastic spot for a morning coffee and a bit of work on the laptop as I am doing now (free wifi!), and equally as nice in the evenings for a casual dinner.
The family and I are regulars here since it opened, we probably go once a fortnight on average. The location is the best part - it's right along the scenic walking track that runs all along the Nightcliff foreshore, hence the name of the cafe. The seating is half indoors and half al fresco with the doors opening to let the fresh sea air in.
You can also sit on the lawn outside in one of the provided bean bags or mats. This area is also pet friendly so you can bring your 4 legged children along for dinner too. As I write this one of the dogs snuck inside for a sniff around and was promptly escorted out back to his owner by one of the staff. Cheeky bugger!
The food is typical Aussie fare with a bit of modern flare added to it. Chances are if you like to eat food, you'll find something of interest to you. My favourites would be the BLT vienna for breakfast and the Foreshore Beef Burger for lunch and dinner.
For the sweet tooths there is a fridge full of cupcake and raw cake goodness as well as an array of ice cream. What I would like to see is some traditional cakes as well, something their sister venue The Cool Spot does very well. The iced coffee and milkshakes are top notch as well. Having said that, you won't be complaining after having the Chocolate Hero - warm rich chocolate mude cake topped with ice cream, chocolate sauce, berry coulis, wafers and cream - Yum!
After all that indulgence you just walk off the guilt right outside on the walking track. Go all the way down to the end to the bridge and then come back again to grab a take away coffee on your way home :P
When they first opened, some of the food I had was a bit hit and miss. Half cooked chips, dry burger patties and mixed up orders, but they seem to have settled into their groove now.
