The Great Little Place Cafe

Double trouble toil and bubbles! Today's review is brought to you by two of the Darwin Foodies team, who had to fight over who could review this place.

Brioche of Tarth

For almost 6 months I've had this little cafe in my sights. I knew where it was, I'd heard great things about it, but never got to it. Last week we had some time off work and we were driving down the highway and out of the corner of my eye, the black banners flew. I basically yelled for my partner to turn left and the scene itself could have been part of a comical movie.

The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the walls on the inside is filled with magical thingamabobs.

One of a marks of a successful cafe is hearing the person behind the counter say "just your usual?" with a great big smile to not just the usual one or two, but to multiple customers. There was a lady had turned up late for her usual and it was just heartwarming to see that the cashier's genuine reaction.

The menu has very interesting mix of the super meats and the solid vegetarian. I love the way they showcase their daily panninis.

We already had lunch so we just stopped for coffee and it was excellent. Smooth, not over strong and delicious.
It was so good that we came back later that week!

We had lunch this time, and the patron in front of me ordered the very last bowl of laksa *sads*.

The chunky beef burger ($12) blew my head to the roof. The buns were soft, but warm. Melted cheese over a juicy wholesome meat patty that isn't overly oily... every bite was heavenly torture.

Our other dish was avocado & feta stack, which was good, but the feta was smelt a little off so I didn't enjoy it as much as the burger.

Perfect little spot with a super chilled ambience, highly reccommend it trying it - my only wish is that I found them earlier!

Their name is a little misleading as it's not really great at all. A more accurate name would be "Way Greater than Great Little Place". It's not that the coffee is super nice, it's not that the food is good value and on point and it's not the welcoming decor. Relaxing jazz music that's playing in the background? Not it either. What makes this place greater than great is the friendliest and most warm service this side of Emma the Yellow Wiggle. The food could be shit house and I'd still come back for the great service – thankfully both are A+.

The next time you're driving down the Stuart Highway in Winnellie, make it a thing to pull over to Great little Place for cuppa and a bit to eat, it's charm will win you over for sure.
