The Cav: Revisited

The Cav Burger and chips

The new ‘Cav is new again. They’ve updated their lunch menu my review posted back in September last year and it certainly looks the goods from first glance. There’s a mix of cuisines in their with some Vietnamese inspired salads, tacos, salt and peper squid, burgers, pasta and steak. There are oysters oysters too – yum! And if you like to eat in the morning, they’ve got a bangin’ breakfast menu with one of the best bacon and egg toaste sandwhiches around.

I visited a few times just before christmas and again today where I decided to dine inside for the first time. It’s really nice inside, much better than out with a dark, spacious and sexy feel, plus plenty of TVs with which to watch the Aussie cricket team destroy the Indian side.

Peri peri chicken burger

The burger I had was reaaally good. The meat pattie was full of herbs and spices, the lightly toasted bun crisp, salad was fresh and the cheese melted into pure goodness – a real delight to eat and definitely light years beyond what was on offer a few months ago. One of the finer burgers I've had lately. The boss also enjoyed his peri peri chicken burger, I was waiting for him to look away so I could sneak a bite, but he wasn't co-operating. The chips still need a bit of work though, not enough crunch and a touch too soggy.

Prawn and crispy pork salad

The new salads all looked very enticing but the prawn and crispy pork Vietnamese salad caught my eye the most. Presentation and construction was fantastic, everything cut up and julienned nicely. Taste wise it could do without the onion and instead have chopped up basil and Vietnamese mint as one would usually find in such a salad. Whack some crushed peanuts on top and you've got yourself a winner. The supposedly Vietnamese dressing definitely needed more of my Mum's lovin' infused into it.

Overall my past few visits have been very good. The breakfast holds one helluva mean bacon and egg toastie, the lunch menu will give The Roma Bar across the street a run for its money and they also do fresh juices too. Great to see they've upped their game quite a bit since the last Darwin Foodies visit, well done to the managment. Check it out yo.
